Putting History to Work – Bringing the Field School Model to Crooked Tree, Belize

Public History professor, Alicia McGill, has been very busy this summer. After receiving an NCSU Facutly Research and Professional Development grant to pilot the first NC State international public history student research practicum, McGill and Public History students, Hannah Scruggs and Lisa Withers, set off to Belize to collect ethnographic and archival data in the village of Crooked Tree - a community rich in history and vibrant cultural heritage.

Partnering to Preserve North Carolina’s African American Heritage

Graduate students in Dr. Alicia McGill’s Cultural Resource Management (CRM) graduate seminar recently partnered with the NC Historic Preservation Office on a project in which they researched, collected and documented invaluable archival, bibliographic, and observational information, as well as oral histories about African American cultural heritage and historic preservation issues in multiple North Carolina communities.
