Rethinking Museum Accessibility

Public History grad student Jeanette Shaffer's plan to develop an audio guide script for visually impaired visitors to the Museum of Durham History leads to the creation of a museum task force with the goal of improving accessibility for audiences with different disabilities. Jeanette presented on her research and engagement with the museum at the Georgia State's Graduate Student History Conference in March.

Public History Graduate Students Attend the 2016 NCPH Annual Conference

In March, several graduate students in the Public History Program attended the 2016 Annual Meeting for the National Council on Public History in Baltimore, Maryland. The theme of the conference was “Challenging the Exclusive Past.” The conference’s sessions, panels, and workshops all revolved around discussions of what public historians can to do to expand and challenge local, state, national, and global narratives.

Grad Students Display Innovative Work at Research Symposium

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences was well represented Wednesday at the 2016 Graduate Student Research Symposium. A total of 43 Humanities and Social Sciences students from 14 different graduate programs presented their work at the annual symposium, which showcases research from across campus through poster presentations that are judged by faculty.
