Public History PhD Student James Wils Wins Award
James “Jimmy” Wils, first-year doctoral student in public history, received the District VIII Award from the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America for his dissertation research on the commemorative landscape of the early American republic. At a brief ceremony at the Joel Lane House in Raleigh on March 4th 2015, Jimmy and his advisor Dr. Craig Friend met with Barbara Lawther, chair of the Patriotic Service Committee for the NC Society, and Betsy King, NC president of the NSCDA during which he received an award certificate and a check. Jimmy plans to use the award to help fund dissertation research trips.
