Professor Craig Friend Discusses Lunsford Lane for Black History Month News Segment

Lunsford Lane was a North Carolina man who bought freedom for himself and his family and later wrote a slave narrative autobiography. Professor Craig Friend was interviewed on ABC11 about his scholarship on Lane for a segment for Black History month. The segment aired 5 February 2024.

Friend’s book, Becoming Lunsford Lane: The Lives of an American Aeneas, will be available in February 2025. Friend’s research focuses on early American republic, Old South, issues of identity and commemoration, gender and masculinity, and death culture.
