History Department Launches Texts & Talks Series

The History Department launched its new event series “Texts and Talks – Recent Faculty Books” this semester. First speaker Professor Nancy Mitchell presented her award-winning book, “Jimmy Carter and Africa: Race and the Cold War“ (Stanford University Press) and drew students, colleagues, and public visitors alike to D.H. Hill Library on April 22.

Mitchell gave her audience a fascinating insight into her tireless work in archives around the globe. Prominent politicians, ambassadors, and people from behind the scenes were among the many voices Mitchell brought together for her listeners to understand the crucial impact of Carter’s Africa politics on the Cold War.

If you missed the chance to be there and would like to know more about the worlds Mitchell navigated and puzzles she solved while working on her book, please check out the new History Department Vimeo channel or find us on iTunes by searching on “Jimmy Carter in Africa – Race and the Cold War.”
