Public History Doctoral Students Named Lead Peer Mentors

Public History Ph.D. students Cheryl Dong and Sarah Soleim have been named Lead Peer Mentors in the Lead Graduate Professional Skills (GPS) Collaborative for the 2016-2017 academic year.

Supported by the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Graduate School, the Lead GPS Collaborative is a pilot peer-mentoring program for doctoral students in the college of humanities and social sciences focusing on the development of professional skills and competencies important for graduate student success.

The goal of the Lead GPS Collaborative is to support graduate students in gaining skills that will better prepare them for the job market. Along with doctoral students in Sociology, Psychology, Public Administration, and Communication, Rhetoric & Digital Media, Public History students Cheryl and Sarah will learn about peer and faculty-student mentoring relationships and then design and implement a professional skills initiative at the departmental level. At the end of the year, they plan to present the results of their initiative to the Graduate School.
