2016 Graduate Student History Conference
Graduate students from across the United States joined NC State University to present research at the 112th Annual Graduate Student History Conference on April 2, 2016.
Sponsored by the History Graduate Student Association and the History Department at NC State, this year’s conference featured ten panels on diverse fields in history, such as Native American Diplomacy, the Antebellum and Civil War South, Poverty and Progress in American Cities, Cross-Cultural Exchange in Modern Asia, Religion and Artistic Expression in Early Modern Europe, Public Memory, and more. Graduate Students from as far away as California joined five of our own. The conference also hosted a special undergraduate panel, featuring talks by NC State students Tyler Ellis and Tori Williams. Notable faculty from NC State and the Triangle area provided comments for the panelists. See the entire 2016 Conference Program.
Dr. Anthony Kaye, Professor of History at Pennsylvania State University and 2015-2016 Fellow at the National Humanities Center, gave the Keynote Address. His talk centered on Nat Turner’s prophetic visions leading up to his 1831 slave uprising.
Notable papers given at the conference will be published in the NC State Graduate Journal of History, now in its fourth year.
