Melanie Burkett – Thesis Distinction
Melanie Burkett was awarded “distinction” for her thesis entitled, “Australian Legend, Australian Lives: The Interplay Between Representations of Early Nineteenth-Century New South Wales and the Experiences of Free Immigrants.” Her thesis examines the lives of British migrants to Australia in the first half of the nineteenth century. Melanie completed her thesis under the direction of Professor Brent Sirota. Melanie studied British, British imperial, and Australian history during her time at NC State. She will graduate with her Master of Arts in History in December 2015. In the new year, Melanie will begin work in the doctoral program in history at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia.
