History of Women’s Basketball at NC State Exhibit Opening
Exhibit Opening
On Thursday, December 4th, NC State Athletic Director Deborah Yow addressed a gathering of students, faculty and friends at the NCSU History of Women’s Basketball at exhibit opening.
Watch the full exhibit opening, including an interview with the exhibit curator, on Wolfpack Sports Television.
The exhibit celebrates the history of NC State women athletes on and off the court and commemorates the career of Coach Sandra Kay Yow, the Hall of Fame NC State women’s basketball coach.
“This is wonderful,” Debbie Yow concluded in her talk at the opening. “Thank you for honoring her and honoring everybody that’s ever played the sport, honoring all women in athletics, and anyone who has ever had to work their way up through the ranks,” she said.
The exhibit was created by NC State students in Professor David Zonderman’s Museums Studies class (HI 591) as a part of the course curriculum. Lauren Vilbert, a PhD student in Public History, acted as curator, and the entire class worked in teams to collect artifacts, design the exhibit layout, and plan the programming for the opening.
The majority of materials used in the exhibit are on loan from the NC State Special Collections library and the Athletics Department.
The exhibit is located in the main lobby of Withers Hall.
