The Fox television show “Xploration Earth 2050” recently featured Department of History faculty members, Dr. Julie Mell and Dr. Susanna Lee. In two separate episodes they show off the innovative way they use the D. H. Hill Library’s visualization and making technology spaces to transform the way they teach and students learn.

In an episode entitled “The Classroom of the Future,” host, Chuck Pell interviews Associate Professor of History, Dr. Julie Mell, about her innovative use of the Visualization Studio in bringing both a Stone Age tomb and a full-scale digital version of the Bayeux Tapestry to life for her students.

In a second episode entitled “Teaching Goes High Tech,” Pell talks with Associate Professor of History, Dr. Susanna Lee, about the exciting ways the Makerspace in D. H. Hill can bring historical artifacts to life. In collaboration with the North Carolina Museum of History, Lee had students 3D scan and print fragile objects that couldn’t otherwise stand-up to the poking and prodding of historical analysis.
