Public Historians attend International Federation for Public History Conference in Bogota, Columbia

NC State Public History Masters student Nicole Coscouella and faculty member Tammy Gordon recently attended the International Federation for Public History annual conference in Bogotá, Colombia.

Nicole Conscouella presented her paper, “Using Social Media to Engage Ethnic Immigrant Communities in Historical Institutions,”  – work she did with the Khayrallah Center and in the Introduction to Public History class in Fall 2015.

Says Nicole, “Going to Bogotá for the IFPH Conference was a wonderful professional and personal experience. Not only was I able to present my research to scholars from across the globe, I also was able to establish networks in non-US locales. Furthermore, I was on the same panel as Michael Frisch, whose works the Introduction to Public History class read. Presenting with him was both terrifying and fulfilling.”

Tammy Gordon’s paper, “The World is Mine—I Own a Kodak: Tourism, the Eastman Kodak Company, and the Making of a Recording Class, 1888-1932,” appeared on a panel she organized about historical memory in tourism and marketing.

The conference was in both English and Spanish, and participants came from over 40 different countries. María Emma Wills of the Centro Nacional de Memoria Histórica in Bogotá and Liz Sevcenko from the International Coalition for Sites of Conscience Museum were the keynote speakers.
